Back when I was still with West Coast Martial Arts, I was working there as a teacher. I loved all my students, sometimes I feel bad for leaving them. It's really nice to see my students in random places at times when I'm hanging out, and it's nice of them to say "hi" to me every once in while too.
Turns out that almost the entire staff at the old west coast school quit their jobs, and they haven't fully replaced everyone yet. I can only imagine how much hell they're going through over there right now. I knew the place would fall apart once we all started quitting. It's their fault for making the work environment there so shitty.
A while back one of my old students said hi to me on Facebook. He told me he was going to get his black belt pretty soon which was awesome to hear. I asked him how classes were and I could tell he was indirectly trying to say it was boring. As the conversation progressed I ended up telling him that I take kung fu lessons now. Being my student, of course he's going to be interested, so I told him all about it. I wasn't trying to convince him to quit westcoast and come to my kung fu school, but when I scrolled up and read our conversation it kind of looked like I did.... It's just that when I compare how much I like kung fu over west coast, I make it look so much better. And since I'm his old teacher, of course he's going to believe everything I say. But then he said he wanted to get his black belt before he considered trying out any other styles, which was somewhat of a relief for me (for no particular reason).
Last night, another one of my old karate students said hi to me telling me he got his black belt just recently. Congrats to him! I can't believe so many of my students are the same rank as me now hahaha, but it doesn't matter because it was too expensive to go any farther in West Coast. Anyways, this kid was a lot more straight forward. He complained about how much it sucked that everyone quit and how boring all the classes were. I couldn't help, but agree. Eventually I somehow ended up in the same conversation again.. I told him all about my new kung fu school and how awesome it was and how much I loved it. The kid was getting excited just hearing it from me, and it turns out he lives down the street from it. By the end of the night I unintentionally had his mind set on quitting west coast for kung fu. I didn't mean to, and I really hope that's not a bad thing.. I mean hey, he has his black belt, he's bored of west coast, he wants to try something new, his family wants him to become the next Bruce Lee, and he lives down the street from it. I don't see why he shouldn't consider it. I'm honestly not trying to steal students from west coast, I just really really like my kung fu school hahaha.
