For just about all of my Halloweens, I spent them trick or treating. Although I might have spent one of them running a halloween party at my previous martial arts school where I worked. This year I played a nerdy card game and joined some friends at their church to hang out. Then I spent the first 20 minutes at home handing out candy, then spent the rest of the night watching anime......
Playing cards was fun. The tournament report is in a previous post.
Hanging out with my friends at their church today was a lot of fun too. They called me like 50 times before I finally got there, I'm surprised I didn't die of a car crash. We started off sitting there for like a while doing absolutely nothing. The older people were setting up games for the halloween event while the kids were trying to get out of doing work. For some reason I felt helpless just sitting there so I decided to go up and offer help. But when I did, they just looked at me and either said something completely random, or just ignored me. One of them even asked if I had worms because my shirt had worms on it.. Ugh some white people these days. *sigh*
Anyways, shortly before the halloween thing started, the girls suggested that we all go to Tapioca Express to pick up some pearl drinks down the street. We had a hard time getting out because of their strict church lady.. Or whatever she was. The girls just pushed us out of the church and we went off to TapX. I drove them there and then I ended up buying everyone's drinks... They owe me $13! I have to remind myself to remind them.
When we got back that church lady was standing at the doorway with her arms crossed with what looked to be a forced "mad" face. I guess some higher-up church people feel obligated to create pure children via parenting methods. She ended up scolding the girls and asked them something silly like "Do your ethics change when you are around boys?!" It was weird, I just tried my best to stay out of the way.
All of the church kids ended up having to work at each of the halloween games so I spent most of my day helping them out. It wasn't too bad. I tend to get excited around little kids. Whenever they would land a ball inside of a cup or land a dart onto the dartboard I would raise my voice and give them a high five. I felt like the games were much better and more fun if you interacted with the kids. The overall event felt a little unorganized. With the proper leadership and teamwork, I imagined a lot of improvements that could have been made to the event. Oh well, it was still fun.
On a side note, I actually saw the family of one of my old martial arts students. That put a smile on my face, it was nice seeing them!
I made for my trip home around 8:00pm and I could see trick or treaters wandering about my neighborhood, but I noticed that everyone was just walking past my house! Why? Because the porch light was off!!! My dad, sheesh. So I went inside and asked him "How come you're not handing out candy??" and he said, "Because no one rings the doorbell!" and I was like seriously? dad?
So I went ahead and turn on our porch light and our hallway light to show light within the house as well. Immediately I received like 3 trick or treaters within the next 5 minutes.
I only got consistent annoying door bell rings for about half an hour and people stopped coming as 9:00pm approached. One really creepy part was when I answered the door only to see a little 4 or 5 year old girl. She had a hard time ringing the doorbell because it only rang halfway and then made a strange buzzing noise, so I thought she got our ringer button stuck. So after I gave her candy, I popped my head out of my door and tinkered with our door bell to make sure it was working. And then I looked up to see the little girl trotting back to her daddy who was standing on my sidewalk flashing a flashlight at me to make sure I didn't rape his daughter or something. Like WTF? Who sends their tiny daughter ALONE to a house on halloween and uses a flashlight like that?! Is he TRYING to bait his daughter????? Way to make the the one giving away the FREE candy uncomfortable. My dad told me I should've flipped him off hahahahahaha. I thought that was funny.
The rest of the night I spent watching Samurai Champloo. I haven't watched any animes in a really long time so it's nice to indulge oneself every once in a while. I'm really enjoying Samurai Champloo too. It's a treat to be able to hear nujabes' works throughout the anime. To me, watching it is like watching art.. That moves.. I dunno, I just like it that much. Kind of like Mushishi. That anime was a work of art!
